- I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO YOU AND TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THIS, BUT I AM NOT ABLE TO GET THE FULL GRASP OF IT. THE MIND KEEPS COMING BACK SAYING, "HOW CAN YOU BE IN ACTION DURING THE DAY, TRYING TO DO THINGS. TRYING TO ACHIEVE THINGS"?
- AND THE PURPOSE OF MEDITATION IS THAT YOU PROBABLY WANT TO SIT FOR ONE HOUR A DAY JUST TO BE CALM, TRYING TO DO SOME PRAYER, TRYING TO DO SOME LISTENING TO KEEP YOURSELF DOWN. THE EFFECT YOU CAN SEE. THAT AFTER YOU DO THE PRAYER AND MEDITATION, YOU ARE ABLE TO FEEL CALM. BUT DURING THE DAY, UNFORTUNATELY, THE MIND SLIPS OUT, YOU GET AGGRESSIVE, YOU WANT TO PROVE THINGS, YOU IDENTIFY STEPS IN.
- SO, THE QUESTION IS, IS THERE S WAY THAT YOU CAN BE IN A MEDITATIVE PRACTICE THROUGHOUT THE DAY? YOU ARE HOLDING A RABBIT IN YOUR HANDS. WHAT ELSE IS THERE EXCEPT SENSORY PERCEPTION? WHY MUST THERE BE ANYTHING BEYOND SENSORY PERCEPTION? JUST LOOK AT THE CREATURE, LOOK INTO HIS EYES. LET THE PERCEPTION BE TOTAL, AND YOU WILL REALIZE WHAT IS BEYOND PERCEPTION BUT THAT COMES AS GRACE.
AM NOT ABLE TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS EXAMPLE AND THE PHILOSOPHY OF BEING MINDFUL TOWARDS ONE'S ACTIVITIES LIKE EATING, WALKING, ETC. IN ONE OF YOUR TALKS, YOU HAVE DISCOURAGED THE PRACTICE OF MINDFULNESS AND MENTIONED THAT OBSERVATION MEANS, AM I WITH THE BELOVED OR NOT? IT IS OBSERVATION OF THE INSIDE. PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS BETTER.

I HAVE SAID, REPEATEDLY, THAT YOU CANNOT BE PURPOSELESSLY MINDFUL. CONSCIOUSNESS IS ANYWAY VERY, VERY BURDENED. MAN'S MIND IS A STOREHOUSE OF ALL KINDS OF STUFF. MAN'S MIND IS ALREADY FULL. YOU DO NOT WANT TO LOAD IT MORE SENSORY OBJECTS.
SO, WHEN YOU DO LOOK AT SOMETHING WHEN YOU DO ADMIT SOMETHING INTO YOUR MIND SPACE, THERE MUST BE A STRONG AND VALID REASON. IN OTHER SENSE, MINDFULNESS HAS TO BE VERY, VERY PURPOSEFUL. NOBODY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO GAIN ENTRY INTO YOUR MIND UNLESS THE ENTRY SERVES A CLEAR PURPOSE.

SO, IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT REALLY BENEFITS YOU WITH INSIGHTS, THEN BE MINDFUL OF IT, THEN ALLOW IT ENTRY INTO YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS. OTHERWISE, JUST BEING CONSCIOUS OF EVERY LITTLE, TRIVIAL THING AND OBJECT THAT IS HAPPENING IN YOU, AROUND YOU, WILL LEAVE YOU NOWHERE. THERE YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO BE DISMISSIVE, REGARDLESS, OBLIVIOUS- CONTEMPTUOUSLY OBLIVIOUS.

IT WILL FURTHER BURDEN AND DULL DOWN YOUR MIND.
NOTHING CAN BE JUST A MINDLESS PRACTICE. OTHERWISE, IT BECOMES THE ABSURDITY OF MINDLESS MINDFULLNESS. SO, WHEN YOU SAY THAT MINDFULNESS IS GOOD, I WILL SAY FINE, BUT BE MINDFULLY MINDFUL. DON'T BE RAMDOMLY MINDFUL, BECAUSE THERE IS JUST TOO MUCH FILTH THAT CAN FILL UP YOUR MIND. WHY MUST YOU ALLOW IT?

QUES : I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE VERY INTO THE EGO, VERY OCCUPIED WTH THEIR WORK, BUSINESS, ETC. AND THEY USE A PROCESS OF MEDITATION TO CALM THEIR MIND, BECAUSE YOU CANNOT EVEN CONCENTRATE WELL IF YOUR MIND IS NOT CALM.
SO, THEY GO THROUGH A PERIOD OF MEDITATION, AND THEN THEY DROP THE MEDITATION ONCE THEY ARE CALM AND GO ABOUT THEIR WORK. THESE KIND OF PEOPLE WOULD FIND IT VERY HARD TO UNDERTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM. THEY ARE SATISFIED WITH THAT SMALL WINDOW OF RELIEF.
WHAT IS MEDITATION?
FOR EXAMPLE, CONCENTRATING ON THE BREATHING.
ANS : HAVE WE NOT ALREADY TALKED OF CONCENTRATION? TO CONCENTRATE IS TO FORCE THE MIND TO A PARTICULAR OBJECT, AND THE MND DOES NOT LIKE BEING FORCED. SO, IS MEDITATION ABOUT CONCENTRATON? THEN THE MIND WILL NEVER ARGREE WITH MEDITATION. OR, IS MEDITATION SOMETHING ELSE?
WHAT IS MEDITATION? THE VERY ACTION OF A PARTICULAR MIND IS CALLED MEDITATION. WHATEVER YOU DO IN PEACE IS MEDITATION. THIS IS MEDITATION. THAT IS MEDITATION. ALL IS MEDITATION.
MEDITATION DOES NOT BRING PEACE. MEDITATION BEGINS IN PEACE. PEACE IS NOT THE END OF MEDITATION, PEACE IS THE BEGINNING OF MEDITATION.
YOU CANNOT MEDITATE IN ORDER TO BE PEACEFUL. WHEN YOU ARE PEACEFUL, ALL IS MEDITATION.
AND WHAT PREVENTS YOU FROM BEING PEACEFUL? THE IDEA THAT YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING TO GET PEACE. SO, THE VERY EFFORT TO MEDITATE IS A BARRIER TO MEDITATIVENESS.
THE VERY ACTION OF A PEACEFUL MIND IS CALLED MEDITATION. WHATEVER YOU DO IN PEACE IS MEDITATION.
PEACE IS NOT THE END OF MEDITATION. PEACE IS THE BEGINNING OF MEDITATION.
THE FOUR STATES OF MIND
THE FIRST STATE : THOUGHTS KEEP ARISING AND I GET LOST. MOST OF THE TIME, THESE THOUGHTS RELATE TO FEAR AND WORRIES.
THE SECOND STATE : I MAKE A CONSCIOUS DECISION TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING, I AM AWARE OF THE DECISION, BUT THEN THE STUFF OF STAGE ONE INTERVENES AND CARRIES ME AWAY AGAIN.
THE THIRD STATE : I SIT SILENTLY DOING PRANAYAMA (BREATH CONTROL) AND PAYING ATTENTION TO THE BREATH. THOUGHS KEEP ARISING IN THE BACKGROUND. I TRY TO KEEP MY ATTENTION ON THE BREAH. I KEEP HEARING SOUNDS NEAR ME, BUT I STILL REMAIN ATTENTIVE.
THE FOURTH STATE : I AM WORKING ON SOMETHING AND COMPLETELY ABSORBED IN IT WITHOUT ANY THOUGHTS AND DON'T EVEN REALIZING ANYTHING HAPPENING AROUND ME. I AM JUST COMPLETELY ABSORBED IN WHAT I AM DOING.
IT IS NATURAL TO OBSERVE THIS? ARE THESE ALL THE SAME OR DIFFERENT? AND BY DOING IT, WILL I GO CLOSER TO A BETTER QUALITY OF ATTENTION OR DHYANA (MEDITATION) , IR IS IT ANOTHER TRICK OF THE MIND?
WHEN YOU ARE MENTIONING THESE FOUR STATES, YOU ARE PROBABLY ASSUMING A PROGRESSION. THE FIRST STATE IS WHEN THOUGHTS ARISE AND TAKE YOU AWAY, IT IS ALMOST LIKE GETTING KIDNAPPED . AND IN THE FOURTH STATE, YOU ARE TALKING OF THE DISSAPPEARANCE OF THOUGHTS. IN THE FOURTH STATE, YOU SAY IN ARE JUST COMPLETELY ABSORBED IN WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
STOP BEING A WATCHMAN. ATTENTION IS NOT ABOUT KEEPING AN EYE ON YOURSELF. ATTENTION IS ABOUT BEING AN ATTENDANT TO THE TRUTH. ATTENTIONIS ABOUT NOT GETTING IDENTIFIED WITH WHATEVER YOU ARE PHENOMENALLY DOING.
LIBERATION, MEDITATION, HEART,
AND FREE WILL
WHAT IS LIBERATION?
WHAT IS BONDAGE? THERE IS NOTHING CALLED LIBERATION, NOTHING AT ALL. IT'S JUST THAT BECAUSE THERE IS BONDAGE, HENCE THERE IS LIBERATION. IN THE ABSENCE OF BONDAGE YOU ARE LIBERATED FROM LIBERATION AS WELL.
QUES : IS MEDITATION THE ONLY WAY TO ATTAIN LIBERATION?
ANS :
WHAT IS MEDITATION? IF MEDITATION MEANS CHALLENGING YOUR BONDAGES, THEN YES, IF MEDITATION MEANS DOING THIS AND THAT, THEN NO.
QUES : DOES LIBERATION MEAN THAT WE ARE FREE FROM ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES?
ANS : FIRST OF ALL, YOU CANNOT USE THE WORD "RESPONSIBILITY" IN THE SAME BREATH, IN TWO DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS. THAT WHICH WE KEEP ON DOING ON A DAILY BASIS, IF THAT IS WHAT IS TO BE CALLED AS RESPONSIBILITY, THEN LIBERATION IS NO RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL. AND IF LIBERATION IS THE REAL RESPONSIBILITY THEN THERE CAN BE NO OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES.
YOU CANNOT SAY THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MEETING YOUR QUARTERLY SALES TARGET AND YOU ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR LIBERATION. CHOOSE THE WORD CAREFULLY.
QUES : WHY IT IS SO EASY TO FALL INTO BONDAGE?
ANS : IT IS ATTRACTIVE AND IT CARRIES THE NAME OF LIBERATION. LET BONDAGE COME TO YOU HONESTLY DECLARING IT IS BONDAGE, AND THEN WE WILL SEE WHETHER BONDAGE ATTRACTS YOU. BECAUSE YOU ARE A GREAT LOVER OF LIBERATION, THEREFORE BONDAGE MANAGES TO DUPE YOU.
LOVE WITHOUT WISDOM MEANS A LOT OF SUFFERING.
THE QUESTION IS NOT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AT THE END OF THE JOURNEY. THE QUESTION IS HOW ARE YOU DOING ALONG THE JOURNEY. LIFE IS THE JOURNEY.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FEELINGS AND VOICE OF THE HEART?
IN THE EAST, IN FACT EVERYWHERE IN THE SPIRITUAL DOMAIN, THE HEART HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO REPRESENT THE CENTER OF FEELINGS. IT IS THE CENTER OF WISDOM. THE MIND IS TAKEN AS THE CENTER OF ALL MENTAL ACTIVITY, AND ALL MENTAL ACTIVITY INCLUDES BOTH THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS.
SO THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS BOTH EMANATE FROM THE MIND. WISDOM, REALIZATION, THAT'S WHAT THE HEART IS ABOUT. SO, HEART HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FEELINGS.
SO NOTHING IS PRESET. YOU HAVE FREE WILL, FREE WILL DOES EXIST. YOU BETTER ALIGN YOUR FREE WILL WITH YOUR EVENTUAL AND TOTAL FREEDOM. DON'T MISUSE FREE WILL.
WHAT IS THE LIMITATION OF FREE WILL? IT IS FREE TO GO BERSERK. IT IS FREE TO CHOOSE ALL MADNESS. IT IS FREED TO MAKE ALL THE WRONG DECISIONS. BUT IT IS NOT FREE TO ULTIMATELY NOT BE LIBERATED. ULTIMATELY, FREE WILL HAS TO SURRENDER TO LIBERATION. BUT HOW LONG WOULD THAT TAKE? THAT DEPENS TOTALLY ON YOU.
